A Georgia woman missing in California mountains for two weeks has been found alive. Tiffany Slaton, 27, of Jeffersonville, was found Wednesday afternoon at the Vermilion Valley Resort near Lake Edison in California's Sierra Nevada mountain range, according to the Fresno County Sheriff's Office. The office said in a news release that Slaton was found when the owner of the resort was checking the property and saw her in one of the cabins. The owner left a cabin unlocked in case a lost hiker needed it, the sheriff's office said. USA TODAY reached out to the resort but its voicemail box was full. The office said that Slaton was found dehydrated but "was otherwise in good condition," though has been taken to the hospital for observation. Slaton's family reported her missing on April 29 after not hearing from her for the previous nine days, resulting in an effort to find her that included a four-day, 600 square mile search in the mountains. She was last seen near the old Cressman's General Store in Shaver Lake on April 24. The search for her covered an area between Mono Hot Springs to Wishon Reservoir and Pine Flat Lake to Auberry Slaton's parents said they spoke to their daughter on April 20, the day before her disappearance, according to Fresno television stationKSEE-TV. Her father, Bobby Slaton, said it was unusual for her be unresponsive. "That's something that's unlike our daughter; she always responds to us at least once or twice, even in one day," he told the station. He explained that his daughter went on the California trip after completing a contract as a dialysis tech in Oregon, KSEE-TV reported. Before going to medical school to pursue a career as an anesthesiologist, she had cross it off her bucket list, Bobby said. "My daughter loves new people. She doesn't know a stranger, so it was a perfect opportunity for her to do that because she was in California, which is also one of the things that was on her bucket list, to travel and see all 50 of the United States, and California had not been checked off yet," he said. Detectives will meet with Slaton to discuss what occurred, the sheriff's office said.
